Creating Special Learning Centres at Schools

At School Psychology India, our mentors will assist you in creating special learning centres at your school campus.

Inclusive is the future and for that, you need to make your classrooms inclusive and adaptable.

Special education programs are designed for those students who are mentally, physically, socially and/or emotionally delayed. This aspect of “delay,” broadly categorized as a developmental delay, signifies an aspect of the child’s overall development (physical, cognitive, scholastic skills) which places them behind their peers. Due to these special requirements, students’ needs cannot be met within the traditional classroom environment. Special education programs and services adapt content, teaching methodology and delivery instruction to meet the appropriate needs of each child.

The umbrella term of special education broadly identifies the academic, physical, cognitive, and social-emotional instruction offered to children who are faced with one or more disabilities.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Deafness-Blindness
  • Deafness/Hearing Impairment
  • Developmental Delay
  • Emotional Disturbance
  • Intellectual Disability
  • Multiple Disabilities
  • Specific Learning Disability
  • Speech/Language Impairment
  • Visual Impairment (Including Blindness)

Special needs schools and programs are for kids who have challenges or disabilities that interfere with learning. They provide the support that’s not normally provided in general education programs. Starting a special school is undoubtedly a noble thought, but it requires a lot of consideration and thoughtful processing to do it right.

A learning centre is a space set aside in the classroom that allows easy access to a variety of learning materials in an interesting and productive manner. Learning centres are usually designed to offer a variety of materials, designs, and media through which students can work by themselves or with others to operationalize the information learned in the classroom. Centres are designed to enhance the learning of concepts, skills, themes, or topics. This learning can take place after a topic is presented to students, during the course of presenting important concepts, or as an initial introduction to material in the text.

The power of learning centres lies in the fact that students who “didn’t get it the first time” or need information presented in a different light receive a more individualized lesson than a whole-class lesson could ever provide. Centres provide time for you as a teacher to spend time with students individually or in small groups, helping students learn curriculum materials in their own way and style.
